A dry brush effect is recognizable through uneven edges, broken ink and visible bristle gaps. Too much randomness can make it look like damaged export data rather than an intentional mark.
Build from a clear stroke
Start with a simple horizontal mark in the NexTools Brush Generator. Increase roughness gradually, then adjust thickness and the density of gaps. Keep a strong central body so the stroke still reads at small size. A narrow headline underline needs fewer holes than a large poster banner.
Test practical placement
Put the mark under type and behind a short label. If the gaps cause letters to disappear or the edge looks noisy at thumbnail size, reduce detail. Export a vector for editable color and scale, or a transparent PNG for quick placement. Inspect the downloaded file, not just the generator preview.
Keep one restrained and one expressive variation. Designers often need both within the same campaign.
